Nathra can give Gosden Atalanta double

 Aug 31 2017

John Gosden won this last year with Persuasive who went on to be runner-up in Group 1 company and Nathra herself is better than this Group 3 level. The daughter of Iffraaj was second to Minding in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile as a two-year-old and again was runner-up in the French 1000 Guineas the following season.

She looked in need of the run but also got no room at all to deliver her challenge in Listed company on her reappearance, however the four-year-old put in a really good effort when third in the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes at Newbury behind Masaat and Librisa Breeze.

That reportedly delighted her connections which isn’t a surprise as it came over 1400 metres behind two real speedsters. A step back up to a mile is ideal and she has been the subject of very good reports from the gallops.

As far as dangers are concerned then Marco Botti’s Aljaazzi stands out. The daughter of Shamardal needs time between her races and took her form to a new level when a fine second in the Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot. That showed this is clearly her trip.

Other notable entries include Lincoln Rocks, Intimation and Greta G. Lincoln Rocks is such a likeable and battle-hardened front-running mare. She’s well worth the step up to Group level following her latest Listed win and it would be great to see her get into the money.

Intimation was second to the smart Laugh Aloud first up and then came back after another break with a strong second in Group 3 company in Ireland.

Gretta G, formerly a South American filly and now a stablemate of Nathra, has been highly tried in two starts on quick ground. She clearly needs soft ground and is still of potential in the right conditions.
