Zelzal can sign off in style

 Nov 2 2017

With a lot of attention around Ribchester and World Approval, Zelzal looks like going under the radar at a good price in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile at Del Mar.
French runners have a great record in the race and Zelzal really stands out at the odds as a horse who should thrive in these conditions.

The son of Sea The Stars is already a Group 1 winner having taken the Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly last season and has always been considered a horse who wants faster conditions that bring out the strength of his wonderful turn of foot.

Zelzal just hasn’t had that type of ground and loomed up strongly in both the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood and the Prix de la Foret at Chantilly before getting bogged down in the soft conditions.

Undoubtedly he will get firm ground at Del Mar and with just three runs behind him this campaign this has clearly been the aim.

With that freshness and the ground, Zelzal can run a huge race on Saturday morning before Al Shaqab Racing retire him to stud at Haras de Bouqetot in France for the 2018 breeding season.
