Vintage can reign in National test

 Jan 5 2018

Vintage Clouds should be spot on for the marathon 5900 metres test, a distance which can bring further improvement for the eight-year-old. He’s looked to be improving again this season after an Aintree win and a second at Haydock over a trip too short.

Like many to the forefront of the betting Vintage Clouds is proven on heavy ground which can certainly be said of the likely favourite Mysteree. He was a winner of the Eider last season and will be primed for this with a superb record first up.

The Tom George-trained Wild West Wind is three from four over fences, also proven in testing conditions and looks also set for a big run after winning the trial for this here last month.

Newcastle’s Rehearsal Chase could be a key piece of form with the one-two Beware The Bear and Bishops Road lining up. The latter was back to form on his first run since being pulled-up in the Grand National and represents Kerry Lee who won this two years ago.

Meanwhile Beware The Bear looks set to improve for the step up to a marathon trip and the Newcastle win was a career-best effort.

Elsewhere Emperor’s Choice won this in 2014 off three pounds higher and after plummeting in the handicap came back to form at Haydock last month on heavy ground and could go well at a price.
