Opportunity of a lifetime for Sky country caller

 Apr 4 2018

Wagga-based racecaller, Allan Hull will have the chance of a lifetime this weekend on one of the biggest days on the Australian racing calendar at Royal Randwick.

Sky Sports Radio’s Andrew Bensley announced on his Racing HQ program this morning that Hull will call the Country Championships Final at Day 1 of The Championships this Saturday 7 April.

The call will be broadcast around Australia on Sky Racing and Sky Sports Radio and Hull said he is nervous but very excited.

“I feel so honoured to be given the opportunity, it’s an amazing reward after 47 years in the industry,” Hull

said. “I’ve been calling races since I was 20 and these things come around for us country guys once in a lifetime. It’s $500,000 race, you don’t get to call one of those every day. “It’s an exciting opportunity for me and a great responsibility. It’s especially great for my local Wagga area.”

Bensley said The Championships present some of the best racing in Australia and he is delighted to once again offer the opportunity to call the final at Randwick to a country caller.

"Since the introduction of the Country Championships, Sky Racing, alongside the Australian Turf Club, has welcomed an array of our regular country callers to call the final,” Bensley said.

“Allan is such a well-known voice across the Sky Racing radio and television network and we’re thrilled to have him at Randwick on Saturday. There's no doubt the gates will crash back when the Country Championship field jump from the barrier.”

Viewers can catch all the action of The Championships direct from Royal Randwick on Sky Thoroughbred Central (FOXTEL Channel 528).
