Royal Ascot Preview, Day One

 Jun 19 2018

There are three Group One races on Day One of the Royal Ascot carnival in what promises to be a terrific meeting.

The three Group One races include: The Queen Anne Stakes, The King’s Stand Stakes and the St James’s Palace Stakes.

There are six races in the card with the first race at 11.30pm (AEST) and the last race at 2.35am (AEST). An impressive performance in the King’s Stand Stakes (1000m) would potentially catch the interest of The Everest (1200m) slot holders, with the race to be run at Royal Randwick on October 13.

Sky Racing’s International presenter, Richard Wade, will host the Sky Thoroughbred Central (Ch 528) every night and below gives his thoughts and best bet on Day One.

Richard’s One To Watch – Race 3 (12.40am) King's Stand Stakes

The best 1000 metres horse in Europe, Battaash, takes on last year’s brilliant winner Lady Aurelia in what promises to be a race to savour.

Another one not to miss – Race 2 (12.05am) Coventry Stakes

I can't wait to see if John Gosden's Calyx can back up his debut, the sectionals were outstanding.

Richard’s Best BetLaraaib in Race 6 (2.35am) The Wolferton Stakes

Laraaib is a horse I've been keen on for a while and I think he's potentially Group 1 class running here at Listed level. His Group 3 second at Sandown is strong form and I think this quick ground is the key.
