See The Master revels in Gold Coast mud

GOLD COAST Mar 16 2019

Tough gelding See The Master disproved several long-held racing theories about wet tracks with his win at the Gold Coast.

See The Master charged down the centre of the track to beat Pickelhaube ($7) by a length in the AD Hollindale Stakes May 4 Plate (1800m).

The gelding, one of the smallest horses racing in metropolitan Queensland racing, had an ordinary wet track record and was burdened with 59kg.

Punters obviously agreed most horses with that combination would struggle on a heavy track and See The Master drifted out to $5 after being a clear favourite in early markets at $2.90.

The win continued trainer Chris Waller's good run in Queensland and it was his 27th Brisbane metropolitan winner of the season.

Waller's Gold Coast stable manager Paul Shailer said he had no idea how See The Master would handle the wet conditions.

"We don't worry too much about theories other than to get them fit and send them around," he said.

"But he has done a good job today and he should be able to go on to win in better company."

See the Master is now likely to step up in distance.
